CMDR Explained
Earning Points towards CMDR Rankings
- CMDR points from MD events are earned on an individual basis, meaning you do not need to be playing with your registered MD teammate to earn CMDR points in a MD event.
- The overall CMDR points earned in a MD event will be split 50% between each player on the competing team. Both players must participate in every end of every game to earn CMDR points in an event.
- Players on four-person teams can also earn Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) points towards their CMDR. For teams with four registered players, an individual’s CTRS points earned are equivalent to 25% of the teams total CTRS points earned in the event. For teams with five registered players, an individual’s CTRS points earned will remain consistent with the team’s earning allocation that is registered with the World Curling Federation for World Curling Team Ranking purposes.
- Exception: If an athlete who qualifies for the CMDCC can’t play due to a scheduling conflict with the WMCC or WWCC, their individual CTRS points earned at the World Curling Championship will be counted as if it were a Mixed Doubles event.
CMDR Registration
- MD teams can currently register for the 2025 Trials CMDR and the 2024-25 CMDR via this link: Canadian Mixed Doubles Ranking Team Registration
- Teams who have not registered for the CMDR by the stated registration deadline will not be eligible to earn a CMDR berth at National MD Events.
- Teams may modify their initial CMDR registration at any point up until the registration deadline by emailing Scott Pfeifer with the change request.
- The 2024-25 CMDR will be updated on a bi-monthly basis starting October 1, 2024 (the first and third Wednesday of every month). CTRS points will be updated on the first Wednesday of every month starting October 1, 2024 for those teams who have registered for the 2024-25 CMDR.
Registered teams may only challenge the allocation of points up to 14 days from the updated CMDR rankings being published on the Curling Canada website HERE and may do so by emailing Scott Pfeifer within that timeframe.

Event Rules
- In order for Tiered events to count towards CMDR points, the event must be registered with the WCF World Team Rankings prior to the CMDR team registration deadline, and not less than 30 days prior to the start of the event.
- An event will be considered officially registered by emailing event details (location, date, purse, registration information) to both Scott Pfeifer and CurlingZone at least 30 days in advance.
- In events where a pay-per-win format is utilized, a maximum of 30% of the event purse may be allocated to the pay-per-win proceeds of the event. At least 70% of the event purse must be paid to the event qualifiers.
Mixed Doubles Base Points Awarded
- MD Provincial Championships with 12 or more teams will be awarded points equivalent to a Tier 2 MD event.
- MD Provincial Championships with less than 12 teams will be awarded points equivalent to a Tier 3 MD event.
New Events Announced for 2024-25 (updated September 2024)
- FISU Mixed Doubles Qualifier will be awarded points equivalent to a Tier 3 Mixed Doubles event.
- U-21 Canadian MD Qualifiers. 1 point per win for non-qualifiers. 10 points to each qualified team.
- U-21 Canadian MD Championship will be awarded points equivalent to a Tier 3 Mixed Doubles event.
- U-21 World MD Championship will be awarded points equivalent to a Tier 3 Mixed Doubles event.
Event Base Points Adjustment
- If there is no 3rd place game in any event, points earned for 3rd and 4th place will be averaged for the two semi-finalists.
- Tier 2 and 3 MD Events with less than 16 registered teams will receive a pro-rated number of points. For example, an event with 12 teams will receive 75% (12/16) of the total amount of points normally allocated to the event. Events with more than 16 teams registered will continue to receive the maximum 100% allocated to that tier.
- A maximum of 50% of teams in a MD event can receive qualifying points. For example, a maximum of 6 teams can be awarded qualifying points in a 12-Team event. This does not include teams who do not qualify but received points-per-win for the Round Robin.
- However, if qualifying points are available for more than 40% of the teams entered in any Tier 1, 2 or 3 event, the ranking points awarded for the first round of the playoffs in the event will be reduced by 20%. For example, a 16-team Tier 3 event with 8 teams advancing to the Championship round will have the quarterfinal points reduced from 10 points to 8 points. A 16-team event with only 6 teams qualifying for the playoffs will still be awarded the base 10 points to each quarterfinalist.
CTRS Points Awarded for 4-Person Events (shown for comparative purposes only)
For example, if the two players on a MD team both won separate events each with a strength of field multiplier of 11, they would earn a cumulative 41.3 CTRS points to be applied towards their MD ranking.
