Biography / Biographie:

During the late 1970s, skip Lindsay ‘Davie’ Sparks—representing North Vancouver’s North Shore Winter Club—led her team of third Dawn Knowles, second Robin Wilson and lead Lorraine Bowles to two national women’s titles. In 1976, after finishing in a tie at 7-2 with former two-time champion Gale Lee of Alberta, Sparkes won in a sudden-death playoff. Three years later, the B.C. foursome won the round robin at 8-2 and earned a bye to the final under a first-year playoff format. Defending champion Cathy Pidzarko of Manitoba survived a series of playoffs among five teams with 7-3 records, but lost to Sparkes in the final. The team then traveled to Perth, Scotland to compete in their first-ever women’s world championship.

The two-time national women’s champion retired from curling in 1980, but her interest in the sport continued. She was the driving force behind Scott Paper Limited’s decision in 1982 to come on board as the title sponsor of Canadian Women’s Curling Championship. Wilson has co-coordinated the Scott Tournament of Hearts on behalf of Scott Paper for all of the company’s 25 years of sponsorship. For her great contribution  to the growth and development of the Hearts and women’s curling in Canada, Wilson has been inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in the builder category.
