World Wheelchair Preview

2025 World Wheelchair Curling Championship begins Saturday in Scotland
Team Canada will begin its campaign to move one notch higher in the standings when the 2025 World Wheelchair Championship starts Saturday in Stevenston, Scotland.
Team Canada, consisting of fourth Jon Thurston (Dunsford, Ont.), third/skip Gilbert Dash (Kipling, Sask.), second Douglas Dean (Thunder Bay, Ont.), lead Collinda Joseph (Stittsville, Ont.), fifth Chrissy Molnar (Trent Lakes, Ont.), head coach Mick Lizmore, and team leader Kyle Paquette, has its sights set on the gold medal this year after capturing silver last year in South Korea.
The event runs through to March 8 at the Auchenharvie Leisure Centre in Stevenston and gives teams their last shot at securing final qualification points for the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.
Team Canada has seen the international podium for four of the last five years, and it is one of 12 countries aiming for the top spot this year.
Team Canada is in tough competition, playing Team U.S.A., in its first game on Saturday, followed by facing defending champion Team Norway on Sunday afternoon. Team China, the top seed heading into the tournament, will encounter the Canadians on the final day of round-robin competition on March 6.
The six-day round-robin will determine rankings heading into the playoffs, where the first and second ranked teams get a bye to the semifinals. The teams ranked third to sixth will play in qualification games that decide who fills the remaining two spots in the semis. Medals are awarded at the end of the bronze-medal and gold-medal games on March 8.
