Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship headed to British Columbia for first time in 2026

Canada’s top mixed doubles curling teams will battle for a national championship in British Columbia for the first time in the event’s history, it was announced today by Curling Canada.

The 2026 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship will be played March 21-27 at the Cloverdale Curling Club in Surrey.

“We’re excited that we’re able to bring this elite event featuring many of Canada’s best curlers to B.C. for the first time and we have every confidence that Surrey and the Cloverdale Curling Club will be a wonderful host,” said Nolan Thiessen, Chief Executive Officer of Curling Canada. “We know many teams will be starting down the path to chasing their dreams of playing in the 2030 Winter Olympics and the 2026 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship will be the first step for many of those teams.”

It will be the first time a Curling Canada national event has been staged in Surrey. The Cloverdale Curling Club, a six-sheet facility, celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2024.

“We are thrilled to host the 2026 Curling Canada Mixed Doubles Championship in Surrey,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “This is a major event for our city, and we look forward to welcoming athletes from across Canada. With the exceptional talent and skill on display at this tournament, fans will be in for a treat as teams compete for the honour of being National Champions. I would like to thank the members of the Cloverdale Curling Club for the tremendous work they did to bring this prestigious event to Surrey.”

The Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship made its debut in 2013 in Leduc, Alta., and with the mixed doubles discipline added as an Olympic medal sport in 2018, the Canadian championship plays a significant role in deciding the team that represents Canada on the world stage.

Two-time Canadian champions Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant of Chestermere, Alta., who also claimed gold at the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials last month in Liverpool, N.S., will represent Canada at the 2025 World Mixed Doubles Championship, where they hope to earn Canada’s berth in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Fourteen Member Association Champions will join qualifying teams from the Canadian Mixed Doubles Rankings. Further details on the field and format will be announced at a later date.

“The City of Surrey and the Cloverdale Curling Club worked extremely hard on their bid for the 2026 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship that Curl BC was proud to support, and we’re very excited to see that work rewarded,” said Scott Braley, Chief Executive Officer of Curl BC. “There is a dedicated and passionate curling community in the Surrey region that I know will support this event, both as volunteers and fans, and it will be a memorable experience for everyone.”

The winner of the 2026 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship in Surrey will represent Canada at the 2027 World Mixed Doubles Championship, while the gold-medallist at the the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship (March 16-21 in Summerside, P.E.I.) will play at the 2026 World Mixed Doubles. World Championship dates and locations will be announced by World Curling.

“We look forward to welcoming participants and spectators to witness the best in mixed doubles curling at the 2026 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships,” said Darren Schellekens, manager of the Cloverdale Curling Club. “This prestigious event will bring together top-tier athletes and passionate fans. There will be incredible competition, a vibrant atmosphere, and unforgettable moments. We can’t wait to provide a sensational experience for everyone involved.”
