Calgary ticket launches!
Ticket launch set for Calgary events, new format for PointsBet Invitational
Calgary curling fans have a lot to look forward to over the next 14 months as they prepare to watch many of curling’s best teams at the 2025 PointsBet Invitational in early October and the BKT Tires World Women’s Curling Championship in mid-March 2026.
And here’s the better news — not only will you have the opportunity to lock down your favoured seats at the WinSport Event Centre to see those events, you’ll also see an exciting new format unveiled at the fourth edition of the PointsBet Invitational that will get Canadian teams in early competition mode leading to the 2025 Canadian Curling Trials in November in Halifax. That’s the event that will decide Canada’s four-player women’s and men’s teams for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Ticket-package sales for both the PointsBet Invitational and BKT Tires World Women’s Curling Championship will get underway Thursday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. MT, and fans who want to attend both events can take advantage of an amazing initial offer.
For a limited time, until April 30, fans who purchase BKT Tires World Women’s Curling Championship full-event and championship-weekend packages can also buy a general admission PointsBet Invitational full-event pass for just $50 plus applicable service charges. That’s a 75 per cent savings off the regular price!
Speaking of the PointsBet Invitational, the 2025 edition, scheduled for Oct. 1-5, that will keep some elements of previous events, but will guarantee teams competing in the Canadian Curling Trials more early season games on championship-quality ice.
The competing teams will be reduced from 16 to 10 in each gender, and the format will transition from the single-knockout bracket to two five-team round-robin pools in each gender, guaranteeing that each competing team will play a minimum four games.
Here’s how the 10 competing teams in each gender will be determined:
- Seven teams in each gender that have qualified to compete in the 2025 Canadian Curling Trials as of April 15, 2025
- Top team on the 2024-25 Canadian Team Ranking System that hasn’t qualified for the Trials
- Top-ranked team in Curling Canada’s NextGen Under-27 program that hasn’t qualified for the Trials
- Champion of the 2025 New Holland Canadian Under-20 Curling Championships.
Similar to previous PointsBet Invitationals, there will be no extra ends, with tie games through 10 ends decided on a post-game draw-to-the-button. Rather than traditional win-loss round-robin standings, teams will be ranked by points, with three points going to teams that win in regulation, two points to teams that wins on the post-game draw, one point to teams that lose on the post-game draw, and no points to teams that lose in regulation.
The two round-robin pool winners in each gender will advance directly to the championship games on the closing day of the 2025 PointsBet Invitational.
Final prize money payouts are still being determined, but as has always been the case, each competing team is guaranteed $5,000 to cover travel and accommodation costs.
The 2026 BKT Tires World Women’s Curling Championship is scheduled for March 14-22 at the WinSport Event Centre, as was announced last week in Calgary.
