Team Tran/Kleiter through to 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials with qualifier event win

The 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials field gained more clarity Sunday as Team Tran/Kleiter took home a Mixed Doubles Trials qualifier event victory, hosted by the Golden Ears Winter Club at Maple Ridge, B.C.

The team, composed of Brittany Tran and Rylan Kleiter (7-2; Calgary/Saskatoon), began the event 1-2 before stacking up six-straight wins, defeating Team Weagle/Epping 6-3 (6-2; Ottawa/Toronto) in the final.

The duo will now set their sights firmly on the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials, set for Dec. 30, 2024 – Jan. 5, 2025, at Liverpool, N.S.

Canadian Mixed Doubles National Coach Scott Pfeifer said the level of play at the qualifier event was exemplary and Team Tran/Kleiter rose to the occasion.

“Congratulations to Brittany and Rylan for qualifying to compete at the Mixed Doubles Trials in Liverpool, N.S.,” said Pfeifer. “Their level of play this week was outstanding and are very deserving of this Trials berth.”

The qualifier event had originally been planned for Abbotsford, B.C., before an issue with the facility’s ice plant felled the Abbotsford hosts. In a wonderful display of community however, the good folks at the Golden Ears Winter Club stepped up and volunteered to take on the event at the eleventh-hour.

“A big thank you to the Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge for stepping up at the last minute to host this event when Abbotsford experienced trouble with their facility,” said Pfeifer. “The host committee from both clubs put on a world class mixed doubles event that was universally praised by the athletes for the superb ice conditions and warm hospitality.”

There are now two remaining Mixed Doubles Trials qualifier events, which are scheduled for Guelph, Ont., Nov. 21-25, 2024, and Banff, Alta., Dec. 5-8, 2024.
