The Chilliwack Curling Club and Community Centre is recognized for its first-class curling facility. Our eight-sheet curling rink delivers excellent services for over 700 members and serves as host to provincial, national and international curling events. We operate a licensed lounge as well as a fully functioning restaurant and manage a busy year-round event rental schedule with many community and private events in our banquet area (accommodating 10-300 guests) and larger events and trade shows on our 25,000 sq ft concrete floor in the summer. We pride ourselves on providing high-calibre curling programs and events for our members and professional, quality services to facility renters.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Chilliwack Curling and Community Centre (CCCC) is looking for an experienced manager who will not only strengthen and grow our Curling Club through innovated programs, but will maximize the potential of the curling facility by becoming a curling centre of excellence. In addition to curling, the General Manager will play a critical role in developing the event spaces to their full potential, so that the Chilliwack Curling Club and Community Centre becomes the location, the community chooses first, for their special events and meetings. In this pivotal role, you will lead, and develop a team that will be empowered and strive for excellence. This position is a full-time, year-round position which will require some weeknights, and weekends during the September to April curling season. Work hours for the remainder of the year, April to September, are flexible to help offset the demands of the active season.
The General Manager reports to the Board of Directors and will oversee all areas of staff management to ensure the provision of high quality, consistent, friendly, and timely services to our membership, and rental guests.
The selected candidate will:
· Oversee all the day-to-day operations of the Centre as well as the physical condition of the facilities and security of Centre property.
· Provide leadership, direction and motivation to all 30 staff members (full time, part-time and casual staff) which include the direct reporting of the Assistant Manager, Kitchen Manager and Senior Ice Technician, Accounting and IT personnel.
· Monitor trends in the curling business and identify new opportunities for growth at the Centre.
· Develop the Centre’s marketing and sales plan to promote membership, sponsorship opportunities and facility utilization.
· Foster and encourage positive relationships with members, sponsors, community stakeholders, neighbouring curling centres, Curl BC, Curl Canada and the City of Chilliwack.
· Oversee financial operations of the Centre working closely with the Treasurer.
· Seek out and apply for any available grant funding.
· Provide support to curling leagues and other events as needed to ensure their success
· Continuously evaluate programs, procedures, practises, and polices and make appropriate recommendations to the Board.
· Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings, and provide a monthly report of the Centre operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· A degree/diploma in Business, Recreation/Sports Management or equivalent experience.
· Proven experience in managing people, a business and a facility.
· Experience with fiscal responsibilities including budgeting, receivables, payables, and record keeping
· Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to create new opportunities and an ability to challenge tradition in a constructive way.
· Hold a Level 1 Curl Canada Ice Technician certificate (or willingness to obtain this knowledge within the first year of employment).
· Curling experience is preferred.
