The Chilliwack Curling and Community Centre is recognized for its first-class curling facility. Our eight-sheet curling rink delivers excellent services for our over 650 members as well as host provincial, national and international curling events. We operate a licensed members’ lounge as well as a fully functioning restaurant and manage a busy year-round event rental schedule with many community and private events in our banquet area (accommodating 10-300 guests) and larger events and trade shows on our 25,000 sq ft concrete floor in the summer. We pride ourselves on providing high-calibre curling programs and events for our members and professional, quality services to facility renters.

The General Manager is at the core of our operations managing club and facility operations, overseeing curling programs and events, maintaining and growing club revenues, managing facility rentals, and engaging our members and the community.  

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

The Chilliwack Curling and Community Centre (CCCC) is seeking an experienced General Manager. This position is a full-time year-round position requiring an extensive time commitment that may include weekdays, weeknights, and weekends during the September to April curling season. Work hours for the remainder of the year, April to September, are flexible to help offset the demands of the active season. 

The General Manager reports to the Board of Directors and will oversee all areas of staff management which includes the Ice plant/ Building maintenance, Food Services, Accounting/ Payroll, Events and Member Services to ensure the provision of high quality, consistent, friendly, and timely services to our membership, rental guests. 
 
The selected candidate will: 

  • Assume overall responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Centre including leagues and bonspiels, ice rentals, building rentals, staffing, bar, food services and pro shop inventory control as well as conditions of the facilities and security of Centre property 
  • Provide leadership, direction directly and indirectly to 30 staff members (full time, part-time and as needed position) which include 1 Kitchen Manager and 11 kitchen staff and catering staff, 2 Ice technicians and 4 helpers when required, 1 bookkeeper, 1 IT support and 6 general facility staff and 3 coaches to assist in delivering junior and school programs 
  • Develop the Centre’s marketing and sales plan to promote membership, sponsorship opportunities and facility utilisation 
  • Foster and encourage positive relationships with members, sponsors, community stakeholders, neighbouring curling centres, Curl BC, Curl Canada and the City of Chilliwack. 
  • Provide support to curling leagues and other events as needed to ensure their success 
  • Oversee financial operations of the Centre working closely with the Treasurer 
  • Monitor trends in the curling business and identify new opportunities for growth at the Centre 
  •  Seek out and apply for all applicable grant funding 
  •  Ensure compliance with all current British Columbia regulations including, but not limited to Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis, Employment Standards, Technical Safety BC, and WorkSafeBC 
  • Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings, and provide a monthly report of the Centre operations 
  • Continuously evaluate programs, procedures, practises, and polices and make appropriate recommendations to the Board 
  • Abide by all the Centre’s Bylaws and Board Policies 
  • Perform other assigned duties as determined by the Board of Directors 

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • A degree/diploma in Business, Recreation/Sports Management or equivalent professional experience 
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is adaptable to and comfortable with variable daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules 
  • Experience in business management with customer service or member-focused organisations 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to create new opportunities and an ability to challenge tradition in a constructive way 
  •  Be a natural problem solver with an ability to identify appropriate resources to find a solution 
  • Experience with fiscal responsibilities including budgeting, receivables, payables, and recordkeeping 
  • Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers 
  • Curling experience is preferred but not required  
  • Experience in facility management a definite asset 
  • Knowledge of the Curl Canada Ice Technician requirements and the fundamentals of managing an ice plant (or willingness to obtain this knowledge with in the first year of employment) 
  • Serving It Right Certificate (or willingness to obtain it at the Centre’s cost within first six months of employment)
