Career Opportunity: Head Ice Tech

Lakefield Curling Club, a member owned four sheet facility in the Kawarthas, has an opening for a Head Ice Technician. Reporting to the Property Director, the Head Ice Tech will lead our team of ice technicians. They will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and removal of the ice surface during the September through March curling season. LCC typically has 20 draws per week plus bonspiels and practice times. The Head Ice Tech will coordinate other ice techs but will have the primary responsibility for the safety, comfort and quality of the conditions in the ice hut and of the equipment required to maintain the ice surface.
Qualifications:
• Level 2 Ice Tech Certification preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered
• Strong time management, organizational and communication skills
• Experience installing ice on a sand floor, Jet Ice water conditioning and
with the Varaxis “Ice Maker’s Mistress” controller
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Plant startup, ice installation including painting, rings and lines
• Ensuring a safe, comfortable and consistent ice surface for all curlers
• Ice prep and maintenance including floods throughout the season
• Rock maintenance before and throughout the season
• Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and actions logged
• Ensure all regulatory requirements (Federal, Provincial etc.) are met and properly documented
• Coordinate ice techs activities and provide skills development where appropriate
• Assist the Property Director to maintain the LCC Asset Management Plan
Compensation:
LCC will consider either an employee or contract position. Remuneration will depend on qualifications and experience.
