Job Description:
The Coaldale Granite Club (CGC) is currently accepting applications for the General Manager / Head Ice Technician position for the 2023-24 season. The ideal candidate will serve both roles, however, the club is willing to hire both positions separately depending on the pool of applicants.

The CGC has a rich history within the curling community and has hosted various provincial and nationally sanctioned events. We are looking for a passionate and dynamic individual who loves working with people, is business-minded, and is motivated to provide an excellent experience for our members and guests. This position will represent our organization within the CGC and the local community.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, this is a full-time position from September to March in which the time commitment will include weekdays, weekends, and evenings during the season. The CGC is a 6-sheet curling club with approximately 8 draws per week and roughly 150-200 members. The club also hosts 5-6 regular club bonspiels throughout the season in addition to weekly rentals, schools, practice sessions, and Curling Alberta sanctioned events.

General Manager duties include, but are not limited to:
• Managing the day-to-day operations of the club (opening and closing the building, responding to e-mails and phone calls/messages in a timely fashion, responding to building alarms)
• Overseeing the fiscal management of the club, including collecting and depositing all revenues, while making viable decisions in the best interest of the CGC
• Maintaining a membership database and records of all financial transactions
• Displaying initiative to promote membership growth, build interest in the sport of curling, and book special events/club rentals
• Execute agreements with new and existing advertising partners while generating other potential fundraising opportunities
• Coordinate contacts and licenses (insurance, AGLC, internet, point of sale system, etc.)
• Ensuring the club is compliant with relevant laws and regulations
• Updating the club and its website/social media channels with up-to-date information (league standings/results/draws, club events, member information, posts/pictures)
• Establish relationships with local stakeholders and act as a liaison for the CGC
• Ensure the cleanliness of the building is well maintained
• Assist in planning the annual curling schedule with the board of directors
• Assist in coordinate bonspiels with board members
• Attend monthly board meetings and prepare financial/operational reports
• Manage and train part time office staff and volunteers as required

Ice Technician duties include, but are not limited to:
• Ice installation (floor cleaning, touch-up painting, sealing, flooding; installing lines, hacks and logos)
• Prepare and maintain the ice for league draws, bonspiels, and events in a timely fashion (pebbling, scraping, moping, sweeping, clipping, temperature control)
• Reflooding the ice at least once during the season and additionally as required
• Removing the ice surface and storing rocks/equipment at the end of the season
• Maintaining high-quality, clean ice conditions while accessing the conditions by watching draws and talking to curlers to gather feedback
• Maintaining the cleanliness of the ice area and performing light facility maintenance (vacuuming, changing garbages, stocking supplies, etc.)
• Monitor and fix ice making equipment to ensure it’s in safe and working condition while reporting any issues to the board of directors
• Identify and forecast needs for small and capital equipment replacement/maintenance
• Stone management and texturing
• Coordinate the sharpening of blades and charging of de-ionization tanks
• Regular communication with other staff, board members, and Town of Coaldale personnel to ensure all league/event ice requirements are provided and the ice plant is in proper condition
• Manage and train part time ice staff and volunteers as required
• Attend monthly board meetings and prepare ice facility reports
• Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry 60 pounds

Skills and Attributes:
• Previous Management or Business Administration education/experience required (experience in a membership setting is an asset)
• Ice Technician experience (Level 1 or 2 Ice Technician certification is an asset)
• Ability to work flexible hours depending on the task at hand, including evenings and weekends, and establishing regular office hours as the General Manager
• Excellent customer service skills with an ability to establish positive working relationships with fellow club members, staff, guests, and community stakeholders
• Leadership skills while displaying maturity, responsibility, and reliability in representing the CGC
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
• Strong time-management skills and an ability to coordinate multiple-tasks at once
• Self-motivated and works well with minimal direction
• Ability to work with computers and operational programs/platforms
• Experience, knowledge, or interest in the sport of curling is an asset

Salary: Competitive wage based on education and experience
