A contest expected to be a close-to-the-vest affair for first place in the women’s division between Ontario’s Marilyn Bodogh and Manitoba’s Lois Fowler turned out to be anything but, as the Manitobans posted those “crooked” numbers and did it frequently. When the pebble had settled on sheet “G” the score stood 10-3 for the Winnipeg four. With the win, Fowler maintains her spot at the top of the women’s standing with a 4-0 record.
The third game at the Yellowknife Curling Centre ended early as well with Cathy Cunningham of Newfoundland and Labrador pulling away from Northern Ontario’s Vicky Barrett for a 7-2 victory.
In the Yellowknife Community Arena five games were played. Team Alberta men rebounded from the setback suffered the previous evening to defeat Team New Brunswick 9-4.
Heidi Hanlon (NB) and her team also played the role of the comeback kids in their game with Alberta’s Glenys Bakker and fashioned a tidy 6-4 win.
Team BC (m), playing the third game in a four-game back-to-back series, built on their win over Alberta in the previous draw to hand Team Quebec a 9-7 verdict.
Rob Gordon’s men’s team from Northern Ontario continued its fine play crafting an 11-6 win over Yukon’s George Hilderman from Whitehorse.
The final game of the draw pitted Team Shantz (BC) against the women from la belle province. Scores on four successive ends by Team Quebec late in the game sealed the deal with the final score 9-3.
Draw #7 will take place this afternoon at 2 p.m. (MDT).
