Competition Development Program Information
Competition Development Program Information
The Competition Development Program is the next “level” of education for Certified Competition Coaches. Coaches who plan to coach adult athletes competing at the Brier, Scotties, Mixed Doubles and Olympic Trials require this designation, as do coaches who plan to pursue further education like the Advanced Coaching Diploma. Coaches advancing to the Canada Winter Games are required to have two of the eleven “courses” contained within the program. The program’s training is all online using this platform except for three required multi-sport modules and two in-person evaluations. If you’re looking to raise your game to the next level as a coach – this is the program for you.
Prerequisite: Coaches must be “Certified Competition Coaches” to participate in this program
Restrictions: This program is restricted to Canadian residents only
Competition Development Training and Certification Pathway
Program Format:
This program is administered by Curling Canada and is training is ONLINE with the exception of three multisport modules and two in-person evaluations. The program is available in both English and French. Program will be offered in a blended format with a combination of synchronized and asynchronized learning opportunities.
Synchronized Courses
Synchronized Courses are Facilitator lead in a “zoom style” environment. Synchronized Courses may have pre-tasks, post-tasks, group work. Coaches should not enroll unless they can attend all sessions for the course. Curling Canada will aspire to offer synchronized courses a minimum of 2-3 times in English per calendar year and at least once per year in French.
Asynchronized Courses
Self-paced, individually available courses which are part of the Competition Development Pathway. These Courses will be offered year-round.
Learning Management System
Each course is housed on Curling Canada’s Learning Management Website:
Access to the courses on the site is controlled. Coaches will be manually enrolled in each course which they register for through the registration links in the table below. It may take 1-2 business days to be enrolled in the system as this is a manual function at this time.
Coaches will have access to the course for 365 days from the day they are enrolled. Coaches will have to pay a “reactivation” fee to gain access to the course after the 365 days.
Courses
Coaches participating in the Competition Program will need to complete eleven (11) sport specific training courses and the requisite evaluations. In additions – three multisport modules are required (see pathway for details)
Each course will earn coaches five (5) professional development credits towards their NCCP Maintenance of Certification for their Competition Coach status.
