Team Peterman/Gallant savour P.E.I. homecoming in 10-3 opening win at 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles
Brett Gallant may make his home in Chestermere, Alberta, but there’s no denying that the Charlottetown native’s roots are firmly affixed in Prince Edward Island.
So, when Gallant and his partner Jocelyn Peterman learned that his home province was to host the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship at the Gerard “Turk” Gallant Arena at Summerside, P.E.I., they couldn’t have been more elated.
“It’s pretty fun,” said Gallant. “We’ve had the opportunity to curl in P.E.I., twice this year, and we’re back again for the mixed doubles. My teammates earlier in the fall were calling me ‘the Mayor of Charlottetown’ so, it’s really fun for me. I see a lot of familiar faces and they’re all really supportive. Getting the chance to play at home in front of them is exciting.”

The home field advantage seems to be paying off for Peterman and Gallant, as they cruised to a 10-3 win over Team Parmiter/Burgess (0-1; Fredericton) in the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship’s opening draw Sunday evening.
It’s the first step toward what would be a record-setting third Canadian Mixed Doubles title for the tandem, after wins in 2016 and 2019, should the team be able to make good on its opportunity at Summerside.
“A great start,” said Gallant. “I think we caught on to the ice maybe just a little bit before they did and we were able to get a great start to the game. As the game went on, we were getting a little more comfortable with the surface. I think we made a lot of shots and it’s just a good first step.”
Gallant has plenty more than just a trip back home to be excited about though. Gallant and Peterman recently won the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials in December and are set to represent Canada at the upcoming 2025 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship at Fredericton April 26 – May 3, 2025.
“This is our only mixed doubles event were playing prior to worlds,” said Peterman. “So we’re trying to treat it just like that event. It’s kind of a little trial run. We’ve got all the same fans and family here and we’re trying to replicate that event as much as we can in terms of our intensity and how we prepare for the games.”
It’s already been a special season for Gallant especially, who will also wear the Maple Leaf at the 2025 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship as second for Team Brad Jacobs March 29 – April 6, 2025, at Moose Jaw, Sask. He could complete a historic quadruple-crown by adding the Canadian mixed doubles championship and a Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials victory, set for Nov. 22-30, 2025, at Halifax, to his already historic 2025-2026 season.
