Wednesday was a perfect day for Team Canada with a 10-5 win over Team Czech Republic before besting Team Estonia 14-3 at the 2025 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Stevenston, Scotland.

Ina Forrest (Spallumcheen, B.C.) and Mark Ideson (London, Ont.) were on the top of their game in both matches on Wednesday, scoring five against the Czechs and four against Estonia in each power play alone.

“We had lots of practice at that power play,” said Ideson after the game against Team Czech Republic. “We’re trying to get the lead early on, but we’re fairly comfortable coming from behind.”

The Canadians found themselves in an early deficit against the Czech Republic but made effective use of their power play in the third end to turn the game around. Canada kept control of the following three ends to solidify its win.

It’s fair to say that hitting was the highlight of the Canadian game on Wednesday, as it resulted in some high numbers on the scoreboard throughout the day.

“I am always a little bit leery of our power play because it hasn’t always been our strong point,” said Forrest after the win against Team Estonia. “But it’s coming out really well this week, and I’m so glad we’re making such great use of it.”

In the second game of the day, with Canada facing one Estonian counter, Ideson threw a finesse hit-and-stay through a tight port to score three in the second end and set the tone for the rest of the game.

The matchup against Estonia was highlighted on Team Canada’s schedule with Paralympic qualification points in mind. Team Estonia is only one point behind Canada in the rankings, so both teams are looking to earn enough points to secure a place in the 2026 Games.

After Wednesday’s games, Team Canada is in first place in its pool with a 3-0 record.

On Thursday, Canada will take on Team Poland at 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

All games will be available to watch live on the Curling Channel.
