Carey Back for Another Crack at Capital One Canada Cup

The women’s final of the 2011 Capital One Canada Cup came down to a battle between two Manitoba rivals – Jennifer Jones and Chelsea Carey – with Jones coming out on top to claim a second championship title. Just two months later a rematch in the final of the provincial playdowns produced the same results, with a trip to Red Deer for the 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on the line.  But a sixth-place finish in the 2011-2012 Canadian Team Ranking System standings gives Carey a shot at redemption in the upcoming Capital One Canada Cup in Moose Jaw. It marked the second consecutive year the 28-year-old skip from Morden had bowed out in the provincial final.  In the 2011 Scotties playdowns she suffered a similar fate at the hands of Cathy Overton-Clapham… after dominating round robin play with an undefeated record and downing the eventual champions in the 1 vs 2 Page playoff. In spite of the heartbreaking loss, the 2011 season represented a major turning point for Carey and teammates Kristy McDonald, Kristen Foster and Lindsay Titheridge.  A solid showing on the competitive circuit, highlighted by a first Grand Slam title at the Manitoba Lotteries Women’s Curling Classic, earned them recognition as the World Curling Tour Breakthrough Team of the Year.
